International Education Week International Education Week was first held in 2000 and is now celebrated in 100 countries worldwide as a joint initiative of U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. According to statistics offered by the U.S. Department of State, nearly 600,000 international students from more than 200 countries study in the U.S. each year. In the fall of 2006, Texas A&M University international student enrollment was 3739 with students coming from from 128 countries. Texas A&M University was listed as having the sixteenth largest international student population in the nation in 2005. Blinn College also has a number of international students who bring diversity to our community. Each year more than 600 international faculty and scholars come to Texas A&M to teach and conduct research; they often bring their families including children who attend our local K-12 schools. International Education Week provides an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide and is part of an of a national effort to prepare our citizens for a global environment and to attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and have exchange experiences in the U.S. For more information about International Education Week visit their Website at t http://iew.state.gov.
