Announcement for EUCE Essay Competition

Announced: January 12, 2007

The European Union Center of Excellence is announcing a competition for undergraduate essays on the Treaty of Rome’s impact on Europe and the transatlantic relationships. The contest is part of the celebration activities of the 50th Anniversary of the European Union and the Network of EU Centers of Excellence in the US.

Undergraduate students from any fields of study are invited to participate. Submissions should be no more than 2000 words, double spaced in 12 point font. Deadline for submission: Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Please submit entries to lcarranza@tamu.edu. No paper copies please. No deadline extensions.

Essays will be evaluated by a selection committee, and the winning essay from the EUCE at Texas A&M will be sent to the Network of European Union Centers of Excellence to compete with essays from all 10 centers in the United States. The winner will be announced February 28, 2007, and will receive a $250 cash award and a trip to Washington D.C. (airfare and one-night hotel stay) where the award will be presented by Mr. John Bruton, Ambassador of the European Union to the U.S. The winning essay will be published on the EUCE Network website at www.unc.edu/euce.
