Fall IRTAG and ICDG Award Recipients AnnouncedAnnounced: January 23, 2007 The International Programs Office and the Office of the Vice President for Research are pleased to announce the spring International Research Travel Assistance Grant (IRTAG) awards as well as the International Curriculum Development Grant (ICDG) awards. The IRTAG provides funds for international travel to carry out scholarly research abroad. Since 1996 there have been 177 recipients awarded IRTAG funding totaling $307,763. The 2006 fall IRTAG recipients are Robert Chapkin, professor in Nutrition traveling to the United Kingdom; Timothy Devaranne, assistant professor in Biochemistry and Biophysics doing research in Japan; Lawrence Griffing, associate professor in Biology doing research in the United Kingdom; Sharon Gursky, assistant professor in Anthropology going to Indonesia; Hisashi Koiwa, associate professor, Horticulture Sciences traveling to Germany; Konstantin Krutovsky, assistant professor, Forest Science going to Germany for research collaboration; James Matis, professor in Statistics doing research in India; Georgianne Moore, assistant professor, Rangeland Ecology and Management traveling to The Netherlands; Jennifer Sandlin, assistant professor in Educational Administration and Human Resource Development going to Mexico. The ICDG provides funds for support of study abroad courses or classes with an international dimension to be taught in College Station. Since its inception in 1995, ICDG has provided money for 84 awards totaling more than $43,540. The fall 2006 award went to Dawn Jourdan, assistant professor in Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, who will be developing a real estate law curriculum for Guatemalan students enrolled in distance education. These grants are open to all Texas A&M University tenured and tenure-track faculty as well as distinguished and senior lecturers with a 50 percent or greater appointment in College Station or Galveston and are offered twice each year in the spring and fall. The International Research Travel Assistance Grant offers up to $20,000 each semester and the International Curriculum Development Grant offers up to $2,500 each semester. A call for new proposals was recently sent out for spring 2007. |
